From “Dreamer” to “Do-er!”

I recently experienced the most heavy hitting blow that I’ve ever experienced in my career in higher education. I was closer than close to what I call “my dream job.” After two stellar interviews for the same position, my dream came crashing down when I saw that this position was re-posted for others to apply to. That means that they did not choose me.

How could they not choose me? Every CLUE, and action, and WORDS SPOKEN, pointed… To me. I was crushed. My heart hurt so bad, for two weeks straight because I hadn’t guarded my heart (Proverbs 4:23) closely enough, preparing my mind for what could very well be the end result.

My world came crashing down before me. I got rejected. My first major blow. It hurt so bad because it was something that I really, really wanted — I mean — I thought about it, dreamed about it, prayed about it, talked about it and studied for it — and oh my goodness, they loved me too! And, the worst part of all was that I would never know why I wasn’t chosen.

Do Your Work

My husband and I’s friends called to pray with us on the phone later that week. One said: “Whitney **did the work**and got her master’s degree.”

“…she did her work!”

Yes, I “did the work” by earning an advanced academic degree. I was now qualified. I started my master’s in 2015 and finished my master’s in 2017. Between then and now, I’ve carried and gave birth to my 3rd son in 2018.

Between 2014 to 2019 I feel like I have been unintentionally “dreaming” for 5 years about my career aspirations, instead of “doing” more to achieve it. I may have earned my master’s, but I’m not working in my field… I was not actively in a place of “do,” but instead stagnant in a place of just “be.”

This was a wake-up call from my dreams– an alarm clock. This entire experience was almost like I was in an exploratory world– I got to see what could be, in every sense of a career and what it means to be “well-off,” that one could ever want. I got a taste of what it means to go after what you want… and to win; and it tasted really good. I wanted more of the possibility of winning– being chosen. I wanted more of that!

So, today I say that this year is my year of “DO” it instead of just “DREAM” about it. Do more! Do MORE work! I will progress in my career this year. This year, I will DO. Doing your work does not make you exempt from rejection, it just gives you more strength to endure the rejection.

God’s Comfort

God came in through scripture and through dedicated time spent with Him in His word and comforted me during this time. Close family and friends prayed with us on prayer phone calls, and God also came in through messages delivered during weekly church services. God came in and calmed my weary soul regarding this situation of rejection that we had recently experienced, and the terrible pain of not knowing what went wrong in the decision process. He said that there is more, and to put my trust in Him alone- and not man (Psalm 118:8).

He’s teaching me to curb my expectations and to “keep going.” No matter what- keep going; keep applying to careers, keep developing your resume, and keep the faith.

None of this would have ever happened had I not stepped outside of my social apprehensions, did my work, took a risk, and went after what I wanted. Had I not stepped out on faith, yes- I would have been safe from rejection. Yet, still stagnant in my career.

Let this be your year of DO, and not just DREAM. DO YOUR WORK!

Be encouraged, because Jesus knows that I am!!

Upcoming Labor and Delivery – GOD With Us

Praise the Lord.

Daniel and I are so close to the birth of our third son. God has been so gracious to us throughout this pregnancy. I have told everyone that it has been the most easy, stress-free pregnancy out of the three that I’ve ever had. Is it because of the summertime? Or, is it because the Lord is with us? I believe that Jehohovah Shammah (“The Lord is There”) is with us.

Yesterday before bed, hubby felt a leading to pray over me, and anoint me and my belly where my dear son is. It warmed my heart to know that he wanted to pray over us, and ask the Lord to give us a touch and a safe delivery. He anointed me and my belly; he prayed and I prayed with him. We prayed together unto the Lord.

Afterward, he went downstairs to grab our Prayer “Bread Box” that his father gave to us when we first got married. The bread box contains a row of scriptures, or manna (bread) for one to pluck and read both front and back sides. He picked one – I picked one.

Mine said:

“In the day of my trouble, I will call upon thee:  for thou wilt answer me.” -Psalm 86:7

“When thou passeth through the waters, I will be with thee.” -Isaiah 43:2a.

God is so amazing. He is alive, living and active in the lives of His children. These scriptures that the Lord allowed me to pluck, were just for me. Just for me and Esriel. It is referring to my upcoming childbirth. I never ponder labor and delivery until the actual moment, as to not become anxious– but the Holy Spirit says here, IN THE DAY OF MY (YOUR) TROUBLE, WHITNEY– I WILL ANSWER. Hallelujah – He has me in the palm of His holy hands. He will protect me.

The second scripture is REASSURANCE that HE will be protecting my baby Esriel throughout our labor and delivery. When I saw this scripture, I nearly cried. I felt chills and knew that the Lord was Jehovah Shammah, GOD WITH ME – for HE IS RIGHT THERE! “WHEN THOU (ESRIEL) PASSETH THROUGH THE WATERS (CHILDBIRTH), I WILL BE WITH THEE.”

My Lord, He is so good. He has blessed us- He calms my nerves, HE SPEAKS TO ME. HE KNOWS MY EVERY NEED, MY EVERY ANGST, MY EVERY CONCERN! Glory, Jesus!!!!!

You call me worthy, worthy of your blessings, worthy of your prayers, Jesus, worthy of your comfort. Thank you for being the God that I so desperately need every day of my human life. There are no words, no gratitude that can measure up to the ADORING LOVE that you have FOR ME and my family!!! You are insurmountable, holy, gracious and righteous Jesus!!

When I see this typography, all I can think about is how glorified the Lord is among His people, and His perfected infinite nature. The word “worthy” means so much, and the word “worthy” painted onto a star-filled galaxy signifies even more. Galaxies signify the largest areas outside of this earth that are beyond comprehension and beyond our scope. They signify greatness and they signify a vast amount of space.

Once we are saved, the God of the infinite galaxies, the starstruck skies calls us worthy. The God of all of that, and more, calls us worthy. But, not only does He make us worthy once He saves us and sets us free – we call Him worthy because of who He is to us, and who He is in our lives.

I feel so grateful that the God of this universe has made me worthy. Worthy of His calling, worthy of His blessings, worthy of His love.

POEM: Woman

I was speechless when I read this. And, I got chills too. The Lord is good and a very wise God.

When God created woman he was working late on the 6th day…

An angel came by and asked.” Why spend so much time on her?”

The lord answered. “Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her?”

She must function on all kinds of situations,
She must be able to embrace several kids at the same time,
Have a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart,
She must do all this with only two hands,”
She cures herself when sick and can work 18 hours a day”.

THE ANGEL was impressed” Just two hands…..impossible!

And this is the standard model?”

The Angel came closer and touched the woman”
“But you have made her so soft, Lord”.
“She is soft”, said the Lord,
“But I have made her strong. You can’t imagine what she can endure and overcome”.

“Can she think?” The Angel asked…
The Lord answered. “Not only can she think, she can reason and negotiate”.

The Angel touched her cheeks….
“Lord, it seems this creation is leaking! You have put too many burdens on her”
“She is not leaking…it is a tear” The Lord corrected the Angel…

“What’s it for?” Asked the Angel…..
The Lord said. “Tears are her way of expressing her grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering and her pride.”…

This made a big impression on the Angel,
“Lord, you are a genius. You thought of everything.
A woman is indeed marvellous”.

Lord said.”Indeed she is.
She has strength that amazes a man.
She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens.
She holds happiness, love and opinions.
She smiles when she feels like screaming.
She sings when she feels like crying, cries when happy and laughs when afraid.
She fights for what she believes in.

Her love is unconditional.
Her heart is broken when a next-of-kin or a friend dies but she finds strength to get on with life”

The Angel asked: So she is a perfect being?
The lord replied: No. She has just one drawback
“She often forgets what she is worth”.

Thrive | II Corinthians 4

thrive, made to thrive, we were made to thrive, casting crowns

Click for Photo Source

My Lord has encouraged my soul on this morning. I adore my Savior, He is amazing at knowing my every need. Before I call, my Lord answers. Everything that the Holy Spirit has brought to the forefront of my mind, speaking to me, whispering gently;… and all of the scriptures, blogs and tweets that I have been reading just today alone… have referenced “abiding in Jesus.” That “He is the VINE, the True Vine.”

The music, songs and anthems on the radio have said: To “THRIVE” in Jesus; “be rooted,” and to “remain whole.” …To “keep the faith” and to “renew your mind.” Thus, the song on the radio goes on to say: “It’s time for us to more than just survive. We were made to thrive.” The “Made to Thrive” photo illustration above even shows a glimmer and a shadow of a tree’s branches and its vines. Amen. With this, we know now that we were made to thrive and further, to flourish; to have an abundant life (John 10:10a) and to be deeply connected to Jesus, our sole source (OUR SOUL’S SOURCE).

God comforts by not only showing us something once, but over, and over, more and more. Constantly reinforcing that relationship we have in Him. It’s like a conversation. He speaks one thing to your spirit, then you see the words somewhere; or you see the scripture confirmation. Hallelujah. And then, Jesus will comfort you with more and more, and more things that He speaks to your spirit; or shows you in the flesh — right in front of your eyes.

To illustrate and share what the Lord has done for me: this morning I read II Corinthians 4 (see below verses). –> Then, the word “Thrive” came to mind (which is a song that I hear every day on the radio). –> Next, I Googled the phrase “Made to Thrive” since this related directly to the Christian song that is popular right now and contained the same word that the Lord brought to my spirit. –> When I Googled this phrase, an image popped up with a Christian blog post linked to it. –> I clicked the blog post, and there… the exact chapter that the Lord led me to this morning while I was reading my bible at work: “II Corinthians 4” staring right at me.

GLORY! IT WAS AMAZING TO SAY THE LEAST! AMAZING!! God saw my need and brought me to the place in His word that I needed to be in that very moment. His spirit comforts me with something similar to: “Here beloved. Here is what I need you to see today. This is the sustenance that I have for your soul this morning. Read my word and be made whole; be made stronger.”

Renew your “inward man” (your spirit) every day. We need to DO THIS to remain, and WE NEED THIS TO THRIVE. Hallelujah.

So, how do you renew your spirit? How do you renew your mind? You simply open your Bible and sup with His holy word. You feed on it like your life depends on it – which it does. God’s scriptures are more fulfilling than any earthly food you could ever eat. It is more satisfying that any honeycomb you will ever taste. And, that is real.

What if we supped with Jesus and His word every day? Every single day of our lives? Our souls would be lifted out of darkness, the very countenance of our faces would shine. Our spirits would be lifted from the pits of solemnity and our outward lives would become transformed as a result of renewing our “inward man.” Our dry places would turn into visions of hope and rays of glory.

II Corinthians 4, King James Version (KJV)

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Take-Away Encouraging Scriptures, Moments and Key Life Phrases:

  • John 16:13 a, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth,”
  • “We Were MADE to THRIVE” (reference John 15:5, John 10:10). “Thrive” – on its most basic level means “To Flourish, be prosperous, be nimble.”
  • II Corinthians 4:16a, “the inward man is renewed day by day.” Amen, we must be renewed in Jesus’ strength day by day. Every day of our lives we need to spend time with Him for our spiritual strength and everlasting, non-perishing sustenance.

Hope Anchors the Soul

An anchor is something that is dropped into the ocean to dock a boat or a ship; to keep it sturdy, in place and still.

When the wave of life’s problems and issues come crashing in, we have a hope which is found in Jesus, anchoring the very depths of our souls.

Hebrews 6:19 says, “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;”

Sometimes our souls rage and run freely with emotions that are purely based upon hidden feelings, circumstances and situations, oftentimes caused by the ones the closest to us, including our spouses. Those emotions often contain undealt with and hidden desire, envy, hurt, and pain all of which are outwardly manifested in our behavior toward one another.

When we turn away from one another by doing or saying hurtful things and allowing ugly things to come out of our mouths, we shamelessly feel as though we have freed ourselves from a situation that has made us feel bound. But, not so. These emotions must be dealt with and tamed. Untamed emotions can cause our hearts to run sinfully wild and free.

In Jesus, our hearts CAN become comforted and steady; our souls can be still and tamed. When our souls are on one accord with our spouse and when we are tamed with hope during stressful situations, our strength is made full. Our hope becomes sure (anchored) and sustained.

Strive for that persistent hope that keeps you anchored in your walks with Jesus. In Jesus our hearts and our souls must be anchored in order to maintain stability in this life.

|| S O N G ||

Old Hymnal: “If you soul is not anchored in Jesus, you will SURELY drift away.”

|| P R AY E R ||

Dear Jesus, restore us to one accord in our minds and in our marriages. Let Your glorious steadfast hope be an anchor for our souls. Lead and guide our emotions in our marriage, friendships, with our families, co-workers and simply in this life.

Let our SOULS be anchored in You, Jesus, with an unwavering hope. Calm the raging seas of our hearts and keep us in Your sweet, sweet presence. Abide in us Jesus and do a good work in our lives.

Keep us anchored in You so that we drift not away with the cares and lure of this life. In You, hope for tomorrow is found, and in Your mighty shelter are we calmed from our fears, doubts and unbelief. Blanket us with Your holy hope that anchors the soul.

He That Dwelleth

Sometimes it can be hard to see God in the mundane. Life can get downright monotonous at times. But, it is in those moments when we are truly able to see Jesus. In those moments we realize that His presence never left us, but is always there with us. It is in those quiet moments where we remember our calling, who we are, and why He placed us here on this earth.

Those quiet moments were meant for you and Jesus.

Sometimes we don’t have the resources to run to our prayer rooms, our prayer closets or in the bathroom to breathe in Jesus—sometimes we have to do it right there at our desks, in the grocery store while picking up dinner for the night, or yet while we are scrubbing those dishes in the kitchen.

Psalm 91:1 says “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

When you dwell in the Lord’s presence, you are dwelling with the Lord’s presence. You will find that He is always with you. You will find that He is with you, in the midst of it all. He is the One who keeps you calm when others expect you to be enraged. He’s the one who causes confusion to cease when you seek His face. He is the One who encompasses your very being. Abide, and Dwell in Jesus today. Find Him in your every day, and then in your every moment.

|| P R A Y E R ||

Dwell here, Jesus. Dwell here in our every moment, our every day. Let us abide under Your holy shadow, Your sweet shelter of covering. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Good, Good Father

On this cold and icy morning, I am reminded of God’s faithfulness and that He. Is. Good. He is good when we are not good to Him, He is good when we are in our selfish own ways, and He is good when we are not faithful. Lord, help us to realize your faithfulness to us and that we need You. There is a glorious song that rings in my heart daily – It’s called “Good, Good Father” by Casting Crowns. Chris Tomlin has a psalm for it too. I have recently discovered a new group whom I am fond of who sings this hymn and who just recently followed me on Twitter. “Housefires” is a group who promotes the true gospel and a spirit-filled life through song.

|| S O N G ||

Oh, I’ve heard a thousand stories of what they think You’re like but I’ve heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night.

You tell me that You’re pleased and that I’m never alone.

You’re a Good, Good Father, It’s who You are, It’s who you are, It’s who You are and I’m loved by You.

It’s who I am, It’s who I am, It’s who I am.

I’ve seen many searching for answers far and wide.

But I know we’re all searching for answers only You provide.

‘Cause You know just what we need before we say a word.

You’re a Good, Good Father. It’s who You are, It’s who You are, It’s who You are and I’m loved by You. It’s who I am, It’s who I am, It’s who I am.

You are perfect in all of Your ways, You are perfect in all of Your ways, You are perfect in all of Your ways to us.

Oh it’s Love so undeniable I, I can hardly speak.

Peace so Unexplainable I, I can hardly think.

As You call me deeper still as You call me deeper still as You call me deeper still into love.

You’re a Good, Good Father It’s who You are, It’s who You are, It’s who you are and I’m loved by You It’s who I am, It’s who I am, It’s who I am You’re a Good, Good Father It’s who You are.

|| P R A Y E R ||

Today Lord, help us to give our worship to You. Let this song permeate our every being. Let this song be the anthem of our hearts – hearts filled with gratitude and thankfulness unto You.

May we meditate on Your precepts and seek Your will for our lives. Help us to know that You. Are. Good. And, that You are GOD.

In spite of it all. In spite of anything that we may be going through and in spite of any doubt that tries to creep in. Touch everyone reading this today, Jesus that their hearts may feel Your call.

Guide us in our finances, our families, our friendships and our marriages. Cover us in Your holy blood. Let us see Your salvation. Thank You for being a holy and Good, Good Father.

Friday Night Prayer

Good Morning,

Hello Abba GOD. I’ve missed writing for this blog. Last weekend my husband and I went down to all-night prayer with the children to church. While walking and praying, I kept hearing God’s spirit say “healing,” “healing” and that “there was a burden that needs to be lifted.” He was saying that there was HEALING in that place, and healing in that place right now. I began praying for the people of God who needed healing and asked that the Lord touch them.

Two days later on Sunday morning, Daniel’s mother preached the Sunday morning message. The name of the message was called “Restoration.” The message came from the Book of Joel 2:25, which read: “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.” Hallelujah!! the LORD saw a need on Friday night, and brung the Word through His servant on Sunday evening!! Amen!! Hallelujah!!! Healing brings Restoration, glory to God!! Heal on today Lord, touch on today, God. Send Your rain, Your latter rain, Jesus. Hallelujah. Glory to God.
